Literati Pt. 2

I was playing Literati with a friend earlier, I was losing really badly so i typed "SHIT" in the window and it came out @@@@ , they censor the words. So I started cussing like crazy at my friend , using words like cu*t and the f words etc. etc. Then she replied that she could actually see the words at her end, they weren't censored so she was pretty shocked and confused as to why I went all vulgar all of a sudden. I kept apologizing, and I lost the game on purpose just to make it up to her. Ok Ok she whips my ass at that game every time.

Literati

Been playing literati again, thanks to Frinn who persuaded me to try it out. I don't know why, but I have never been able to say no to a hot chick asking me to play some lame ass online game. Anyway I am now hooked onto this lame ass game, but it has improved my vocabulary tremendously! Just today I have learnt 3 new words - gib, mor and hade. Gib is a castrated cat. I am going use that on someone today the next time I insult them. Thank you Literati.

There is some sort of alternative music festival called Baybeats 2004 from 16th to 18th july 2004. Don't know most of the bands that are going to be playing but they got bands from Australia, Thailand and Malaysia playing at it as well. Anyone wanna go with me and check it out?

Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses - Review

Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses - Review

I been eagerly anticipating this album, especially after the hugely disappointing Iowa. The problem I had with Iowa was they took the DJ and his samples out of the equation, and it was a big pity cos he was what made the first album so different and refreshing from the standard metal fare, at least for me. Well they gone back to that type of experimentation in the latest release. They have included acoustic ballads, strings, goth syths, military-styled drumming, classic metal guitar solos and songs that alternate between really heavy screaming/growling and singing. Yep Corey has injected a lot more singing into almost all of the songs compared to the previous 2 albums, and he has a decent enough voice so it works most of the time. The only problem I have with this album is that the heavier songs on the album do not really compare to their best songs from their self-titled or even Iowa. There is nothing as intense as EYELESS or Surfacing or even the Heretic Song (the one that comes closest would be The Blister Exists). Overall I would give it 4/5.

Euro 2004

Freaking Euro 2004. I am struggling to stay awake right now. Stayed up to watch Portugal play Spain but I concussed shortly after half time, when I woke up it was already the post-match conference. Think I need to go to bed early and wake up for the England match today.

Listening to Incubus's Make Yourself right now, cos Su highly recommended it to me. Don't really like it so far, it sounds like pretty standard nu-metal fare so far. But the riff in track 4 (she didn't give me the track list) is groovy as hell.

Watched A Simple Life 2 days ago, the new reality show where they get paris hilton and some other chick (apparently lionel ritchie's daughter) to stay with a farmer's family. Pretty ok show, the best part was at the end when the 2 women were sitting at the porch steps looking rather bored and Paris asked the farmer's young teenage son if there was anything fun that they could do. He said "I don't know". Apparently he hasn't seen Paris's infamous video.

Yeah haven't been in a blogging mood recently. My posts will probably be less frequent nowdays, just haven't been feeling it. So what have I been up to this past week?

Well first trying to get my regular work done by the end of the month. I told the boss a couple of weeks ago that I really need to do something else altogether; that I was getting incredibly bored with the stuff I am doing now. He assured me that I will be able to do that after I finish my current stuff which is why I been slogging like mad to get it done. SO we will see what happens at the end of the month.

Noticed 2 really annoying trends lately. Was in the train on Tuesday when this chicklet who could not be any older than 15 came in wearing a pair of jeans that were so low that I could see right down her butt. I have heard of hipsters but these were more like buttsters. But seriously, the idea of 15 year olds flaunting off their ass cracks is kinda disturbing.

I was browsing through Friendster one day and I noticed a lot of people typing in AlTeRnATe CaPs in their profiles. If you are one of them, please do everyone a favor and cease and desist. It is NOT cute, it's just plain annoying. I could excuse pre-teens doing it, cos they probably think it makes them cool or something. But not adults.

Have been forcing a lot of my friends to listen to the song "Vermillion Pt. 2" by Slipknot, and surprisingly so far all of them like it. Never thought that it would ever happen. Well I would have never thought that Slipknot would ever release a acoustic ballad either. Go check out the song if you haven't.

Been listening to Icarus Line on repeat for the last couple of days. Trying my best to get into it but it's tough as hell, it's pretty inaccessible. But some of the riffs are pretty amazing though, like the ones in songs "Caviar" and "Spike Island". Critics have hailed The Icarus Line as the saviours of rock, just like they did with At the Drive-In two years ago. They were right that time (well at least till the band broke up), this time I am still not convinced.

Next album I am probably gonna get is Van Lear Rose by Loretta Lynn, a 70 year old country singer. Amazing reviews so far. Check the reviews out under my wishlist columm on the right.

Bra Size Revealed

Funny incident yesterday. I was at this women's clothing store with a friend and she was buying some exercise shorts. As we waited at the counter, the woman in front of us in the queue asked the cashier is she was entitled to a free bra because she was buying 3 as it was stated in the promotion poster. The cashier asked a salesgal to confirm and get the bra. The salesgal came back with a bra and then in front of us (and everyone in the queue) asked the woman loudly whether her size was 72A. I already get embarassed when salesgals shout out my waist size, so can only imagine how she felt. She seemed quite taken aback when the salesgal asked her.

Splurged 80 dollars at HMV yesterday as well. Bought CDs by Rage Against the Machine, Franz Ferdinand, The Icarus Line and Spin magazine. Met up with a friend who is probably the only person I know who is more passionate about music than me, she was working at HMV but she quit last week due to management issues. Kinda ironic cos I was actually contemplating working there for 6 months if I leave in August, just so I could do something that I would enjo. Work politics everywhere. But yeah she seemed pretty impressed that I bought the Icarus Line. Think I will ask her out for dinner or something soon. Hey I don't really impress that many gals alright.

Prisoner of Azkhaban

Went to watch Prisoner of Azkhaban last Friday, and surprisingly I enjoyed it. Probably because I didn't read the book, people who did generally thought that the movie was inferior to the book and that it left out a lot of details like Quidditch. Personally I think Quidditch is a pretty lame ass game - bunch of kids flying around in brooms trying to score by putting balls through hoops, but all the scores don't matter if someone gets this special ball with wings on it. But yeah back to the movie. I guess I liked it because it was unlike the first one which was way too kiddish for my tastes. And add to that the cute chicklet who is well on her way to becoming a hottie. Ok just kidding alright, im not a paedo or anything. Highly recommended. The movie I mean.

Compliments

Got the nicest compliment from a friend last week. She told me that my presence really made her feel better when she was feeling down. And I thought to myself, that I have certainly come a long way since the day when a gal I fancied told me I was invading her space. Then the friend told me that maybe I should make my presence felt to other women instead and make them feel better as well, cos she was feeling a lot more better so she felt I didn't need to be around her anymore. Sigh she's so selfless, gotta love her.

Gender Roles blow.

Went for dinner and drinks with 2 of my friends J and S yesterday, J came back from Florida 2 weeks ago and I haven't seen him in like 3 years. But it seemed like old times, not much has changed - although he did tell me I changed a lot. I think he was probably shocked that I actually talk to women now. But it was really nice to catch up with him, I will probably head down to US someday and pay him a visit. And at the same time go see Ozzfest, the metal festival that they have every summer in US.

So after spending last week in Shanghai it's back to my normal work duties. The last 2 days were a real drag I tell ya, I am already looking forward to the end of the week. Not a good sign.

Is there anyone who hasn't seen TROY yet. I wanna go see but seems like everyone I know has seen it. So if you haven't seen it let me know cos I hate going to the movies alone. Chicks get priority of cos. Speaking of TROY, a pretty funny incident at the restaurant yesterday. I was telling J how much I wanted to see Troy and he was asking me if I really liked Brad Pitt that much. And I said that I did cos he was pretty cute. And the waitress who was serving us grinned when she heard me say it. Sigh why does society frown on men admiring the looks of other men? I mean he is cute and has a really nice body, can anyone (guy or gal) disagree with that? I think not! I got gal friends complimenting other gals on their looks all the time, no one raises an eyebrow. In fact I even get kinda turned on when a gal friend tells me how hot she thinks another gal is. But yeah anyway my point is guys should be able to compliment each other on their looks. So any guy friends of mine reading this, feel free to tell me how cute you think my butt is. And I will return the compliment.

Review : Vol 3 : The Subliminal Verses

Finally got my copy of Slipknot's latest album which I been looking forward to for quite a while now, despite the rather disappointing Iowa. And so far it sounds really amazing, it's very different from the first 2 albums. Firstly, there are actually a few acoustic tracks in here. Secondly, they have actually have quite a few guitar solos that immediately reminded me of those from those 80s speed metal bands. Thirdly it's very prog-ish at parts, they really upped the experimentation on this one. Finally Joey actually sings a lot more - he has always had a pretty good singing voice and he uses it to good effect here. Still gonna need a few more listens to get into the whole album, but for a sampler check out "Vermillion Pt. 2", a really beautiful ballad.

Yes I am finally back from Shanghai, flew back yesterday afternoon. So what can I say about my experience there? Well for one I love the weather to death, so much so I am starting to miss it already. It's cool the entire day and I didn't even sweat once. The traffic was pretty scary though - I am not exaggerrating when I say I get a little scared everytime I cross the road; in this land vehicles rule, pedestrians only have the sound of a blaring horn to warn them to get out of the way. And add to that they drive on the wrong side of the road (similar to US and other European countries) and it was quite disconcerting.

The food was amazing, I am not really a fan of Chinese cuisine in Singapore but the food there is something else. The best food we had was at this stall down a dark alley where there were cats like sniffing around our table.

Only thing I didn't like was that there were quite a few beggars on the streets and they mainly target people who aren't Chinese looking. I got harassed by quite a few of them, they were pulling at my shirt and pants and followed me for quite a distance. My colleagues on the other hand weren't harassed even once - they could probably wave wads of money around and probably would not still be disturbed.

All in all it was an enjoyable experience, I definitely needed a break from my workplace and it proved to be just the thing, I feel a whole lot better now.
